Field Experience Blog
The instructional technology field experience allowed me to implement the knowledge learned while completing the Ed.S. degree program. I led a project to create a faculty on-boarding guide for introduction to algorithmic design using Java programming language in the department of computing sciences at Coastal Carolina University. The on-boarding guide was to assist with a new technology called Zybooks that would be used as an interactive textbook platform. The tool included text, active practice exercises, animated examples, and lab content. I conducted a needs assessment and developed a plan to provide instruction to faculty for four coordinated sections of this course. The instructors were able to use the instructions in the guide to configure their textbook tool, create and post assignments, guide students through using the tool, and obtain grade reports. In EDIT 760, Instructional Technology Leadership, I researched a variety of technology standards governing its use in teaching, its ability to improve professional development, and its added benefit to student performance. The information I learned concerning concerning 21st century learners, learning culture, leadership and systemic improvement, and digital citizenship, gave me insight when developing learning modules. I used better design principles, I considered a wider variety of technology, I included stakeholders and used their feedback. I support learning as a professional and I always attend workshops to learn about new technology (and other topics). Learning to implement standards improved integration of technology in my courses and our students benefit by being exposed to diverse learning methods. I am also happy to say that we've seen improved average grades as we modified technology in the classroom to support today's learners. Click here to view research paper briefs and conditions report.
