Summary of graphic design issues related to Graphic Space The image that I chose threw me off balance just quickly viewing it. There seems to be no frame, let alone, frame of reference for the image. I also was not sure if it was meant to be a flyer or web page or cover of a booklet. It just seem to be in disarray. The entire body of content was not in a frame. There just seemed to be random pieces of information placed on the background. The negative space overwhelmed the entire space, so the foreground material (forms) are not set off by contrast. This missing white space does not give the viewer a place to rest their eyes so they can process the image. The red background can give a sense of vibrancy to the idea of a ‘dance’ when used correctly. Finally, for the white space, there are no set margins, the functional area is not grouped to allow for white space, and there is no balance. There is also no defined layout. It is clear a grid was not used and there is lack of visual hierarchy. There no definite dominant…everything is the same size. So the designer did not avoid basic layout issues: 1) avoid extremes, 2) avoid holes in the layout, 3) avoid inconsistent spacing, and 4) avoid being too clever with the layout (definite fail if that was the intent on this last one).
